Probability Using Skittles
This activity is a hands on activity for 7th grade students that relates to the concepts of probability and odds. This activity requires students to first sort a bag of Skittles into colors and then requires them to record data regarding their bag of Skittles such as the total number of Skittles and the total of each color. Once all the data is collected and recorded, students are asked to use probability and odds to answer follow-up questions. By using the Skittles as manipulatives, this activity allows students to physically enhance their understanding of the topic of probability and the topic of odds.
Reflection: I really like this activity. This activity provides students with a fun, engaging way to strengthen their knowledge of contrasting ideas (Probability and Odds). These concepts can be tricky for students to grasp and I believe this activity truly helps students to enhance their understanding of both and understand the difference between the two ideas. The use of Skittles is always great for students to use hands-on materials that they can physical manipulate. Also, after the activity is complete, it is a great treat for students to enjoy! |
